Most of the folks are excited for the winter season! We love this time of year because of the holidays, family, and snow. What’s not to love? Winter is known for shorter days and cooler temperatures. But, before you gear up and go outdoors to shovel snow, check out these 10 wonderful winter fun facts, ranging from a colossal snowman to a reindeer sighting.

1 — During the winter, the Earth is closest to the sun.

While this sounds unreasonable, the world reaches its purpose in its orbit once it’s closest to the sun in January. According to Mental Floss, the winter weather condition has nothing to do with the Earth’s orbit. It’s well supported that the planet’s axis is tilting in that direction, which explains why the two hemispheres are experts at winter at various times of the year. Thus, whereas folks are shoveling snow in North America, they’re enjoying beach weather in Australia.

2 — The most snowy town on earth is in Japan.

Aomori, in northern Japan, receives more snow than any other major city on the planet. On average, voters in this area receive 312 inches, or approximately 26 feet, of snow per year.

3 — Snowflakes have six sides.

This is thanks to ice having a naturally polygonal crystalline structure. However, if you look terribly fastidiously, you may notice a 12-sided snowflake or a 3-sided one. These would have formed beneath entirely different things, allowing for unusual formation.

4 — Squirrels don’t just save seeds for the winter.

When many animals store food for the winter, red squirrels appear to be the most innovative. In addition to nuts and seeds, these creatures dry mushrooms in trees to make mushroom jerky.

5 — There are five totally different sorts of snow.
